Apart from all the good spirits of the evening, every Emmys inevitably becomes a somber occasion in honoring those we've lost over the course of the year. Now, with Robin Williams' tragic suicide still weighing on the world at large, the 2014 Emmy Awards have announced that Billy Crystal will step up to honor his fallen friend in the memoriam segment of the evening.

Emmy executive producer Don Mischer had previously announced that the award ceremony would honor Williams with “the proper and meaningful remembrance he so well deserves.” It isn't clear exactly what form the Emmy tribute to Robin Williams will take, though we at least know Crystal will salute their 40-year friendship by leading the charge.

Additionally, singer Sara Bareilles will handle the musical accompaniment to the "In Memoriam" segment, though a song title has not yet been revealed. The performer had previously dedicated her song "Hercules" to the fallen comedian, who was revealed to have hanged himself last week.

The 2014 Emmy Awards will air this coming Monday on NBC, hosted by Seth Meyers, and we’ll be on hand to bring you all the snubs, surprises and successes. In the meantime, watch our tribute to Robin Williams below, and give us your Emmy predictions in the comments.
