    Charcoal Or Gas?

How long do you wanna be out there grilling?

I love the flavor and the process of grilling with charcoal. I like that it takes longer, but sometimes, especially if you grill year round, you want to be quick. A gas grill is faster and easier. I finally gave up on charcoal 2 years ago after my daughter was born. Just don't have the time to spend in front of the grill like I used to.

    How Often Do You Grill?

Are you out there every day or twice a year?

If you don't use the grill very often or you only use it to cook a couple of dogs and burgers, don't spend a lot of money. You can get a good quality grill that will serve your needs and won't cost you much. If you plan on grilling every day, spend the money and get a grill that will last.

Do You Require A Large Cooking Surface?

Grilling for a family or just you?

If you are only grilling for yourself and another person, you probably don't need a large grilling surface. If you are grilling for a family or a bunch of your friends, you will need more space on the grill. Also, keep in mind what you plan on grilling. Obviously, the bigger the food, the more room you'll need.

Where Am I Going To Store The Grill?

Do I have enough room for a large grill?

If you have a lot of space and can easily store a large grill, go for it. For awhile, I was in and out of apartments, so I always had a portable grill, worked great. When I finally moved into a house, I went with a large grill that I store outside, year round, with a cover on it. Grills come in many different sizes, so make sure you choose one that you can safely store.

Do You Need Any Extra Options?

    Do I need a side-burner?

Extra options will cost you extra money. One of the more popular extras is the side burner. I've had a grill with a side burner and I never used it. Not once. So the grill I have now doesn't have one. I don't miss it. If you really think you will use it, and it's easier than using your stove, go ahead and spend the money. Just make sure it's not a cheap grill, because if it is, chances are that burner will not work for long.
