In documents that Continental Automotive Systems filed with the U.S. government, the company says that moisture may get inside it's airbag control computers which may cause them to fail. Airbags then could deploy without a crash, or not at all if the vehicle is in a crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Continental Automotive Systems will inform automakers and they will recall cars, in some instances dating back to 2006.

Honda, Fiat Chrysler, Volkswagen and Mercedes have already announced recalls. Continental says less than 2 million of the affected vehicles are in the U.S.

Automakers will replace the computers at no cost to owners. Honda reported two injuries from the problem.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has more information on the recalls.
