For whatever reason, I've always been fascinated by games played on green felt tables. For the past 19 years, my number one obsession has been the 36 possible combinations that occur when a pair of dice are thrown on a craps table. When I was 4 years old, another set of combinations on another green felt table dominated my every thought.

The most exciting thing I ever saw on TV(prior to 1980) was ABC's Wide World of Sports featuring pool matches between Willie Mosconi and Minnesota Fats.

My apologies for the VHS tracking issues and my most sincere apologies for Howard Cosell's never-ending banter.

It was because of this program that I spent most of 1977 wishing for a pool table. And I guess must have been good(or good enough), because on Sunday, December 25th 1977, I received the best Christmas gift ever!! It was a mini-pool table that was just the perfect dimensions for my kindergarten-sized Fast Eddie Felson aspirations. It probably cost Santa $45 bucks at JCPenney but to me it was priceless.

As time flew by, the 1980's arrived and my interests turned to the WWF (WWE nowadays) and my brother and I would use the pool table as a prop broadcasting table. After it was the recipient of one too many dropkicks and body slams, the Best Christmas Gift Ever eventually wound up on the curb for the garbage man.

But for two or three years, I think I played pool on that thing every day , it was without a doubt the Best Christmas Gift EVER...what was yours?
