The Boston Bruins have promoted Don Sweeney to general manager. He spent the last six seasons as the assistant general manager.

He worked under Peter Chiarelli, who was fired last month when the team failed to make the playoffs for the first time in eight years.

I love it. Promote the in house guy that's been working his tail off. Bruins president Cam Neely said Sweeney,

has excelled in every role he has been in with the Bruins organization.

Don Sweeney played defense for 16 years in the NHL, 15 with the Boston Bruins.
