This scam is so half-baked that its rather amazing that it has worked several times in the Nashua, NH area, which is almost tougher to believe than the perpetrators.

A decent looking paper check and a believable sounding advertising ploy and the crooks watch the money roll right in. Below are some great tips to avoid similar business scams such as this.

  • Never deposit a check with the intention to wire money back to a business owner. Legitimate businesses do not operate this way. If they are giving you a reason why you need to wire money back it is likely a lie.

  • If you are urged by anyone, especially someone you do not know, to wire money or pay with any type of pre-paid card you are likely the target of a scam.

  • If you are contacted by anyone requesting you MUST send them money immediately and not to talk to anyone you are likely the target of a scam.<

I'd also like to add the age old maxim "If something looks too good to be true, it probably is!" That about 'wraps' it up for my brilliant commentary on this matter.
