Thank goodness cooler heads prevailed on Wednesday. I mean seriously, does Dover want to be the next Portsmouth so bad they are copying their blue-print on how to anger people?

Up until only a few years ago, you could park in Dover for free. Then the meters came in (along with some grumbling).

But okay, we'll pay the fare weekdays to eat at the excellent local hot-spots, have our teeth cleaned at our Dover dentist, and shop around.

Oh, but once the bean counters saw how much money there was to be made, why stop at just the weekdays? Why not ask the fine folks who park in our downtown to pay even more for the privelege?

Thankfully the Dover City Council did the right thing and voted the ordinance down so that everybody can enjoy all the Downtown Dover has to offer without worrying to pay the meter.

Free parking may not seem like a lot, but you and I know, when you realize you don't have to pay for it, you feel better about the space you are in.
