Hey, someone's got to pay for the new garage.

Dover's parking rates haven't increased since 2009, so I suppose it's time to review that situation. That's what the city's Parking Commission is doing.

It costs 75 cents an hour for on-street parking in Dover and at first, parking in the new Orchard Street garage will cost the same. The garage is expected to open next month.

"Commissioners could ultimately recommend higher prices for on-street parking or the new Orchard Street Parking Garage, which is scheduled to open next month, or suggest prices remain unchanged for another year. The City Council will have final say on the parking fees when adopting the 2016-17 budget sometime next spring."

If the parking rates are raised by a quarter, over $100,000 in extra revenue could be raised yearly. The commission also has the authority to lower the parking rates as well.

Something tells me some place might freeze over before that will happen.
