I had always heard the urban legend that millions of Atari 2600 cartridges of the game "E.T. The Extra Terrestrial"  were buried in a remote landfill because the supply was out of this world, but demand was non-existent. The legend was true!

I find this unbelievably ironic because if you've ever had the displeasure of playing this game, you spent many frustrating minutes at the bottom of a forsaken pit of overpixelated doom. If you don't believe me, just watch the clip below to see how long you can stand it.

As someone that spent half of 1983 happily watching Indiana Jones wait for the sun to come up in the Well of Souls, I can say that I wouldn't pay two cents for this game, let alone the $500 current asking price on eBay for these cartridges that served a Twilight Zone-like prison sentence buried in the wilds of New Mexico.

I can think of a ton of games that are better than ET. In fact there are 900 of them just waiting for you that I learned about yesterday. Enjoy! Chances are you won't be "phoning home" for hours.
