This broadcast first aired in 1938 as part of the 'Campbell Playhouse' radio series which was directed by a 23 year old Orson Welles, who also starred in the drama.

My love affair with radio started with listening to the music and the great DJ's of the late 60's and 70's, but I quickly caught on to the wonderful old radio shows that my parents grew listened to as kids.

While some people are stimulated by sight, taste or touch, I've always been stimulated by sound. I can be a million miles away from the here and now when I'm listening to music, or a radio show.

Perhaps it was the setting where I first heard this version of 'A Christmas Carol'. I was at my grandparents house, listening to a radio that was manufactured in 1939 ( I still have it). The room was lit only by the orange candles that my grandmother put in all her windows, and I just laid on the bed and listened to this classic story as told by the actors. I can still smell the bedspread, the aroma of the kitchen, and still have the same picture of Tiny Tim's crutch and chair by the fireplace in my mind.

Whatever means Christmas to you, I hope you get to experience those traditions this year and every year.

Merry Christmas!
