General Electric Building Rumored To Be Sold

Many jobs could be affected at the Somersworth location.

Fosters.com is reporting that employees at the General Electric building in Somersworth were told in a meeting that the building on Main Street has been sold.

There are currently between 400 and 500 jobs at the Somersworth location. Utility meters and transformers are built there.

According to the article;

"The company that is trying to buy a portion of the Somersworth GE operation is Aclara, a global supplier to the utility industry, including meters. According to some GE employees, a portion of the Somersworth workforce may have the opportunity to get jobs with Aclara. Others may be offered transfers to Florida and some may apply for jobs at GE's Hooksett plant. GE did not confirm this.

General Electric has not released a statement.
