If you've had to turn on your oil heat earlier than normal, there is a silver lining.

Oil prices took a dip late last winter, and it's so far, so good this heating season. Low oil and propane prices mean perhaps hundreds of dollars in savings per customer.

The average heating oil price is near $2 per gallon according to the latest Maine survey, and that is close to fifty cents lower than this time last year.

The Energy Information Administration states that the forecast for a milder winter and low energy prices will mean a savings of 25 percent for heating oil users and 18 percent for propane users over the last heating season.

How's that for good news on a chilly Monday?
