Portsmouth's High-Hanover parking garage only accepts cash or check but in 8 short weeks it plans to make major changes in payment.

No more looking in the middle console, or digging around car seats for exact change. According to an article on SeacoastOnline Portsmouth's City Manager has plans to upgrade the garage to technology that will accept electronic payment.

The City Manager admits that accepting only cash can slow things down a bit and the parking garage is notorious for having long lines in and out because of it. Some folks don't even realize it's cash only and will have to park outside the garage, walk back in, and use the ATM in order to pay.

Quoted in the article, John Bohenko says, "We're moving forward." "Within eight weeks we'll be accepting credit cards and debit cards."

This is great news for frequent visitors to the Portsmouth area. Sadly, I think I'm the only one who carries cash anymore so implementing this will surely speed things up.
