President Harry Truman's chances of winning re-election in 1948 were slim to none. But suddenly, in the summer of '48, he calls a special session of Congress on 'Turnip Day, July 26th' and magically the tide is reversed and he is re-elected in November.

66 years later, FLOTUS Michelle Obama harnesses the viral power of the turnip and her song parody scorches social media to previously unseen levels.

In the interest of equal time, the right side of the aisle needs to adopt a similar delicious root vegetable for their very own. Might I suggest the Kohlrabi. While it is less famous than the turnip, I feel that the tenderness and flavor of it far surpasses the turnip and will appeal to those who prefer quality over flashy name recognition.
