Two hikers from Massachusetts were unprepared for conditions, needed help off the Liberty Springs Trail when they became separated from their hiking party Tuesday according to officials.

According to a release from the state Fish and Game Department, a group of five from Chelmsford, Mass. were hiking the Old Bridle Path and Franconia Ridge Trail when they became separated. One of the group called 911.

According to officials, none of the hikers had flashlights or any equipment to stay overnight in the woods, where temperatures were in the low 30s and were expected to drop into the mid-twenties overnight.

Hiking in NH is one of the great ways to stay in shape and experience the Granite State, but you must be smart about it!
