The reason for the recall is due to salt damage that might cause the front coil springs on these models to fail, and maybe cause a tire to puncture.

The recall is for Elantras that were made from November 2010 through March 2011 and Sonatas made from December 2009 through February 2010 that were sold or a registered in the following states: New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C.

Hyundai said it will notify owners and dealers will replace the front coil springs for free. The recall is expected to begin Nov. 30.
