The proposed development in this New Hampshire city would add a parking garage and a freaking rooftop garden.

Downtown Portsmouth continues to look towards growth as more plans come forth to develop this area of the Seacoast.

HarborCorp has proposed a mixed-use downtown development, according to Seacoast Online, on Deer Street between Maplewood Avenue and Russell Street.

The developer is planning on adding a "Whole Foods grocery store, a parking garage with more than 500 spaces above and below ground, a conference center, a boutique hotel, a public plaza, condos and a rooftop garden on the second story above the Whole Foods."

Whole Foods seems like the perfect fit for a place like Portsmouth, but I know that plenty of people who are not looking to see the town's historic character diminished with development.

Whole Foods recently opened in Nashua, which was a first for our state, and it looks like the grocery chain is looking to further invade New Hampshire. We'll see how the public responds to this proposal.
