For the first time ever a vinyl record was played in space and you can hear it.

Jack White and Third Man Records are responsible for the stunt.

They attached a specially constructed 'space proof' turntable to a high altitude balloon and released it as it spun 'A Glorious Dawn' by Carl Sagan on repeat.

The craft reached 94,413 feet when the balloon popped sending the turntable plummeting to the ground.

The record player was still spinning after the crash landing. The experiment took 3 years to plan and execute.

Not exactly sure why they did this, if there was a goal or what they were trying to accomplish, but I guess it's pretty cool that they were able to send a record player way up in the sky while playing vinyl on repeat.
