A Maine man who was known to value his privacy, even when his face could found in every store, has passed away. Burt Shavitz, co-founder of Burt's Bees, died from respiratory complications at the age of 80, according to the Associated Press. He was surrounded by family and friends when he passed away in Bangor, Maine. Shavitz was known to be a hippie and preferred to live by himself off of the land. He made a living by selling honey, which soon turned into a product line with the company's co-founder Roxanne Quimby. The partnership ended in 1994 and Shavitz went back to Maine to live life off of the land. He still made public appearances for many who were enthralled by his iconic look. His life was put under the microscope in a documentary called Burt's Buzz, which details the strange journey of this reclusive beekeeper. https://youtu.be/sdGZoABFYYA
