The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has a new Commander for 2016.

His name is Captain David S. Hunt and he was announced as the new Commander by the Naval Sea Systems Command on Thursday.

The Philadelphia native used to be an Operations Officer in Portsmouth so he is very familiar with the area.

Hunt currently serves as Military Deputy for Shipyard Operations in Washington D.C. and has expressed his excitement in returning to one of the finest shipyards in the country:

I am honored to return to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to lead this team of dedicated and skilled professionals. I am looking forward to serving once again at the Navy’s premier shipyard for attack submarine maintenance, repair and modernization.

Hunt is the 85th Shipyard Commander and will replace Commander Capt. William Greene, who has served since 2013, later this year.
