Is Mick Jagger To Blame For Brazil’s Soccer Loss?

Brazil’s 7-1 loss to Germany in World Cup semifinals yesterday (July 8) was a shock to the sports world. However, there lies a possible explanation as to why it happened: Mick Jagger was rooting for Brazil.

Deadspin discovered that Jagger, who has undoubtedly screwed his share of Brazilians over the years, attended the game in Belo Horizonte, sitting among Brazil fans with his son, who is half-Brazilian. Before the tournament began, he predicted that England and Italy would beat Uruguay during the group stage (Uruguay won both games) and that Portugal would win the tournament with England as runners-up (neither escaped the first round group stage).

This marks the second consecutive World Cup for the “Jagger Jinx.” In the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he was spotted with Bill Clinton during the U.S.’ second-round loss to Ghana. Then he watched England get eliminated by Germany (also in the second round) and Brazil lose to the Netherlands. He then predicted that Argentina would beat Germany in the quarterfinals. Argentina lost 4-0.

It has gotten to the point where, as you can see in the photo above, soccer fans are making cutouts of Jagger wearing a jersey in the hopes of transmitting some of his bad luck on to the opposing team.
