Marina Gray has made her home state of Maine proud. The 23-year-old placed in the top 10 in the Miss USA pageant Monday night. Gray was born and raised in Trenton, but lives in Portland, according to the Sun Journal.

Gray graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in interpersonal communication, and was a sergeant in the Maine Army National Guard as per the Sun Journal. The news source also reports:

Gray had never considered entering a pageant until about two years ago when she read that an Army Reserve officer, Deshauna Barber, had won Miss USA.
