National Geographic Says USA’s Greatest Small Town Could Be in NH

The world's go to source on geography and exploration wrote a lengthy piece claiming this New Hampshire seacoast town might be the country's greatest small town.

On July 14th of this year, National Geographic published an article asking a simple, yet hearty question: Is Portsmouth the USA's Greatest Small Town?

The author sites four major reasons for Portsmouth's excellence over any other small town in America:

1. History
2. Beer
3. Restaurants
4. Coastline

To New Hampshire natives, and frequenters to downtown Portsmouth, these are pretty much the reasons we go. Right? Charming historical buildings, beautiful ocean coastline views, delicious craft beer (and so many choices!), and the food options.

Portsmouth's recent recognition is not new, especially for those in search of a good meal and a cold beer.

On the heals of local Chef Matt Louis's James Beard nomination, USA Today's 10Best chose Portsmouth as the No. 3 Best Small Town Food Scene.

Thrillist.com gave Portsmouth the nod as the potential replacement for Portland as America's "coolest city."
