Wow. Third in the country! A study released by CoreLogic, a real estate data analytics firm, has concluded that New Hampshire has the third highest median property tax rate in the United States.

Illinois tops the list at 2.67 percent, New York is second highest at 2.53 percent, and then we have the Granite State at number 3 with a 2.40 percent rate. According to New Hampshire Business Review, only 7 states have median property tax rates higher than 2 percent. This is how CoreLogic came up with their results:

CoreLogic said to come up with a comparison, it has calculated the median overall property tax rate at the national and state level, taking into consideration all taxing and collection entities in order to provide a complete picture of the cost of owning real property.

So, what does it mean to have the third highest median property tax rate in the country? Check this out from New Hampshire Business Review:

Nationally, the median property tax rate is 1.31 percent. This means that a home valued at $200,000 will, on average, pay annual total property taxes of $2,620. Thus in New Hampshire, the 2.40 percent rate means that the owner of a home valued at $200,000 would be taxed $4,800.

So, here in New Hampshire we are way above the national median property tax rate.
