I swear I watched every inning of Red Sox baseball this weekend and yet, somehow, I didn't hear about this story at all. It appears that the new net at Fenway has an 0 for 1 record in protecting fans this season.

The shattered bat whirled high enough to clear the new netting and pierced the scalp of loyal Red Sox fan Kevin Sweeney. He received 10 stitches.

The new net has garnered a lot of criticism this year and appears that this story isn't going to do much improve the opinion of it's detractors.

Mr. Sweeney's opinion of it has changed however. At first, he was very much against the new netting, now, he wishes that it would extend to the second deck to prevent this sort of horrific accident from happening again.
