While the white Christmas many of us wished for never materialized...it looks like we'll see snow to start the new year.

According to WMUR-TV, a quick moving storm will hit New Hampshire and Maine starting about 6 this evening and dumpand bunch of snow on us for the next three hours.

It will start innocently enough with some light rain and sleet, but according to WMUR Meteorologist Chris Jarzynka, it will quickly turn into wet snow. Areas hit the hardest will be around the Lakes Region of the Granite state. Higher terrain areas like Sunapee, the White Mountains, and the North Country can also expect significant accumulation.

High winds along the coast are also being forecast.

Meanwhile, WMTW-TV in Portland says a winter weather advisory has been issued for southern and central Maine starting Monday at 9 p.m. until Tuesday afternoon.

Of course none of this is good news if you plan on going out to ring in the new years. Road conditions in the early morning hours after the ball drops could be slippery and dangerous. So please use extra caution while driving home tonight.
