Residents will have to stay up late, or get an early start to water the lawn.

Beginning today, Portsmouth officials are putting restrictions on water district customers with regards to the watering of lawns.

These customers will only be allowed to water their lawns from midnight to 10am on odd numbered days. This is mandatory! According to Seacoastonline, Portsmouth Department of Public Works Deputy Director Brian Goetz says:

“on even days there will be no watering at all. We continue to see things drop, our reservoir (the Bellamy Reservoir in Madbury) is down a couple of feet and the river level that feeds the reservoir is pretty much at historic lows”

Portsmouth is down about a foot of rain from the start of the year, and if the water levels continue to go down, an all out ban on outdoor watering could be in Portsmouth's future.
