Is sitting in a puke filled seat a matter of self respect?

After placing their carry-on bags under their seats, they noticed a certain funk that they soon identified as vomit.

The airline did admit that a passenger who was seated in that area had been sick on an earlier flight, but assured the family that it had been cleaned by the crew.

The family was then given the option of of flying out the next day, or staying in their seats. Since the next day was a work day for the parents, they stayed on the plane. Read that again. The family was given options, yet they stayed on the plane, sitting in vomit.

The airline did apologize and gave each member of the family a $150 flight voucher.

I think sitting in a vomit soaked seat is pretty humiliating, and I don't know what this family was thinking. Wouldn't they have gotten their hotel and next flight free simply by saying "So you want me to sit in vomit?". Couldn't they blow off work the next day with the excuse "I wasn't going to sit in vomit".

Even the word 'vomit' sounds disgusting. They stood toe to toe with the airline, and the family blinked.
