81 year old Gerald Beuhrer had slipped and was lying under his truck on the snow covered ground and was in trouble.

Sydney,11, her sister Samantha, 9 along with their friend, 9 year old Savannah were enjoying a day of sledding on Wednesday last week as they were off from school.

As they were out doing what most kids should be doing during a snow day, playing outside, they heard the cries of their neighbor Gerald who was unsuccessfully trying to dig his way out from under his truck.

'Sydney said she heard shouting while they were outside sledding.

"We went across the street to get bigger snowballs because we wanted to make a fort," said Sydney. "I heard shouting but when we looked we didn't see anyone. I heard it again and then a third time. We went back to look and that's when we saw his hat waving in the air."-Seacoast Online

The girls were also unable to dig gerald out, who by this time had been trapped for over an hour out in the freezing cold. The girls got their moms, who called 911, and Gerald was saved!

Sydney, Samantha and Savannah are heroes in my book. They saved the life of their neighbor. They were having fun in the snow, playing like kids, but acting like responsible adults when the call to action came.

And it's not lost on me that they were able to be in the right place at the right time because they were out playing in the snow. Sledding, making snow forts, getting fresh air and exercise. These girls are a great example on so many levels. Great story, better people.
