The American Kestrel isn't rare, but capturing one in your attic certainly isn't something that happens everyday. There are such beautiful colors on this small falcon, what a thrill to see one up close.

Thanks to the great people at Ten Rod Farm in Rochester for not only sharing this video on the world wide web, but for also dealing with this captive raptor in such a humane fashion.

Locally, it is very common to see them on power lines along stretches of highway that abut fields or meadows.

I think they look like large mourning doves from afar but if you're lucky enough to get close, you can see the plumage which appears almost orange and blue at times.

If you haven't figured it out, they are one of my favorite birds!
