I don't know about you, but you can not only make cake with cake mix.  There are a whole bunch of recipes that start with cake mix and you add a bunch of stuff.  One of my favorites is old fashioned, but I still love it - pineapple upside-down cake.  YUM!

This year, however, I'm going to be mindful of what box of Duncan Hines cake mix I use because, according to a story from Boston 25 News, there's been a recall due to salmonella.  The report states:

A sample of the Classic White tested positive for salmonella, which may be linked to an outbreak being investigated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The report lists the following cake mixes:

  • Duncan Hines Classic White Cake
  • Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake
  • Duncan Hines Butter Golden Cake
  • Duncan Hines Signature Confetti Cake

The product UPC and "Best Used By" dates are contained within the report.  Five people have reported getting sick with salmonella after eating the cake mix.

What's the upside?  (There's always an upside with me....)  Maybe this holiday season, if I don't know where the dessert came from, I won't be in such a hurry to shove it in my face.
