Local Red Cross officials are asking for your help with regards to blood donations. Donations slow down in the summer months, but this year is especially bad.

According to Red Cross spokesperson Mary Brand;

"The lack of regular donors has led to a severe shortage in blood supply; they now have less than five days of supply left. Blood is a perishable product. The blood that is donated here today has to be transfused within 42 days. The platelets (have to be) donated within five days. We cannot stockpile blood,”

Now, the Red Cross is urging everyone who can to come in and donate.

If you would like to become a frequent donor, the Red Cross has helpful tips and more at their website.
