The first season of 'The Dukes of Hazzard' coincided with my first year of grade school. It seemed as if my entire existence revolved around watching the next episode of 'The Duke boys' on Friday nights. Recess was a constant reenactment of the show and one character in particular.

James Best's portrayal of Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane was a very popular villain in the Gonic School playground, it seemed that more kids wanted to be him than the protagonists Bo and Luke. But as you'll see here, Best had many other great roles on popular television shows.

His character Jim Lindsey on 'The Andy Griffith Show' while not as cartoonish as Roscoe, yet similar in that he was flawed but still very likable. I can imagine it's difficult to walk that tightrope playing someone whose moral compass is broken, while still being able to make the audience sympathetic to their plight.

This is a far more dramatic bit of acting from Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I left Alfred in the tub at the beginning because it was just too funny to leave out.

James Best had over 80 films and 600 television programs on his resume. But I know that millions of 80's kids like myself will be mourning for a while, perhaps reminiscing with NSFW Best of/Blooper compilations like the following.  RIP James Best
