Close to 2,000 high school kids making up 40 teams from nearly all the New England states are competing this weekend in the Whittemore Center. It's open and free to the public.

The 2016 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition has a purse that includes millions in scholarship monies and bragging rights to a National Championship.

The teams involved has to build a robot from a common kit of parts that will meet the challenge of the competition's game.

FIRST was founded by local inventor Dean Kamen and is based in Manchester. According to it's website, FIRST was founded " in 1989 to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in young people."

So get a glimpse of the future and channel your inner 'Big Bang Theory' curiosity and stop by the Whittemore Center this weekend to get a glimpse of the future.
