According to Rochester Police, a 52-year old Rochester man was driving on Washington Street just after 8:40 Saturday morning and saw a woman he did not know walking in the roadway. He stopped to ask if she was okay and offered her a ride.

Once in the car, the woman told the man she was going to take his 1-year old daughter, who was in the back seat. As the woman tried to unbuckle the child, a struggle ensued and the man pulled the car to a stop. The woman grabbed the child and fled the car and struggled with the man, who was punched several times in the face.

Police arrived at the scene and also struggled with the woman before she was placed in handcuffs.

Joanne Shaw is charged with Kidnapping, Two counts of Simple Assault, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest.

The child was not injured in the incident.
