Couples in therapy talk about fighting when they visit IKEA so often that a therapist is now assigning IKEA homework.

IKEA stores are apparently a land mine for many couples who shop there. Walking the paths through the store, going from room to room seeing how slick and elegant your kitchen, bathroom and bedroom could be is fraught with disaster.

At least that's how clinical psychologist Ramani Durvasula sees it. She's heard too many couples bringing up that store as a trigger for arguments so she's decided to face the problem head on.

Dr. Durvasula assigns couples in therapy to go home and put together a piece of furniture from IKEA and then report back. The furniture could be as easy as a coffee table, or as difficult as a wall bookshelf/media center that can takes days to assemble and sometimes a river of tears.

I think Dr. Durvasula is using her patients as free labor to build her furniture. I bet her house looks awesome.

Most couples do survive the IKEA shopping trip, some don't. But one thing is for sure. None are ever the same.
