According to Somersworth's Fire Chief, The building burned is a total loss and the building inspector will order it razed.

Last night, Somersworth fire fighters had a huge blaze on their hands. According to Fosters Daily Democrat, fire crews were called in from Rochester, Newington, Rollinsford and Dover along with Berwick, and North Berwick, Maine to contain the massive fire. The vacant building which used to be the Great Falls Bleachery and Dye Works facility near Main Street was a total loss, according to Fosters.com. It was a big scare for nearby residents near the Salmon Falls River. Fortunately, the blaze did not spread to the other, residential buildings. Somersworth police Capt. Russell Timmons told Fosters residents did not have to be evacuated along Main Street.

The crews spent hours battling the fire, which was first reported just shy of 8:30pm. The Chief also said the cause of the fire is under investigation by his department and the state fire marshal’s office. An adjacent building was burned in 2003, and another portion caught fire in 2007.
