If you are relieving yourself while looking up in the Granite State on a Sunday, you could be doing some jail time.

In order for societies to exist, there need to be laws, rules to follow for the greater good.

In the early days of these societies, when certain behaviors were deemed dangerous to the well being of others, laws were written to deter this type of act.

New Hampshire is not alone in having laws on the books that seem funny now, but apparently not at the time they were written.

Here are some examples of stupid New Hampshire laws:

  • 'You cannot sell off the clothing you are wearing to pay off a gambling debt'
  • 'It is considered an offense if you check into a hotel under an assumed name'
  • 'It is illegal to pick seaweed off the beach'

And here is my favorite, and one that seems to infer that some of NH's early lawmakers weren't music fans;

  • 'you may not tap your feet, nod your head, or in any way keep time to the music in a tavern, restaurant or cafe.'
