Subaru is telling newer owners of some Outback and Legacy  vehicles to refrain from driving them. Apparently there could be a problem with the steering column shaft.

The notice that was sent out indicates "the steering wheel could rotate freely and the driver would lose the ability to steer the vehicle". Not good.

Subaru owners can check here to see if your vehicle is part of the recall, but you should take this seriously.

The recall affects the 2016 and 2017 Subaru Legacy, and 2015, 2016 and 2017 Subaru Outbacks.

Subaru says the recall was prompted when a 2016 Subaru Outback driver experienced a steering issue on May 3.
