With all the chatter about 'Back to Future Day" this week, let's look back at the iconic automobile that Doc and Marty used as their time machine.

The Delorean sports car was the only model ever produced by the Delorean Motor Company. The company was owned by John DeLorean, and the car was only manufactured from 1981-1983.

The body of the car featured gull-wing doors and brushed stainless steel body. It indeed looked like nothing else on the road at the time, so it was a perfect choice as the modified time machine in the 'Back to the Future' film trilogy.

The Delorean was advertised as being able to go from 0-60 mph in 8.8 seconds and had a sticker price of $25,000.

Owner John DeLorean was arrested on drug trafficking charges in 1982, and the Delorean Motor Company went bankrupt later that year. He was found not guilty.

I think I've seen 4-5 of these cars on the road in my lifetime, mostly when I'm in Florida or California. They certainly looked unique. In this copy cat car design world, I'm surprised we've not seen a look alike after all these years.
