All public services of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, will be shut down for several days later this month. The shut-down is needed to make the switch to a new computer system.

According to a report from WCVB in Boston, beginning on Thursday, March 22nd at 7 p.m until 8 a.m. on March 26, the RMV service locations will be closed, online services will be unavailable and vehicle inspections stations will not be functional. (AAA branch locations will also be unable to offer registry services during that time).

"The registry’s new computer system will enable the commonwealth to issue federally mandated REAL ID credentials," RMV officials explained in a press release.
