This crowning ceremony is certainly one for the ages. This year's Miss Amazonas pageant had quite a final scene as the runner up violently rips the tiara off the winner's head and throws it in protest. What I find almost as shocking is that the applause and support that the ripper receives appears to outweigh that of the rippee.

Though my knowledge of pageantry does not extend to South America, I know enough about pageants to give endless examples of scandalous behavior right here in the Good Ole USA.

Miss California USA Carrie Prejean first made an enemy out of Perez Hilton with her response to his question in the 2009 Miss USA pageant. She ultimately won first runner up that year.

She then became embroiled in a sex tape controversy. The weirdest part of that ordeal was that she allegedly brought her own mother into the legal process to witness the tape and confirm that the person in the tape was in fact her daughter.

I'm still not even allowed to watch PG-13 movies at my folks house, I can only imagine the awkwardness of that screening.

Did you really think I was going to write this post without a local story? In defense of Miss NH USA 2010, I've met her before and she was really cool and friendly. I cannot say that about all Granite State pageant contestants however...nearly everyone... but not all.

I've known quite a few young ladies that have had unfortunate incidents when alcohol is involved and they never made the front page of Huff Post... that tiara really can be quite an attention getter. Maybe Miss Amazonas will be better off without it!

Hey pageant fans! Right here on this very website 2015 Miss NH USA Samantha Poirier will show me how to pageant walk. I hope I'll do better than Miss USA '07 AND '08 did,  but you never know!
