All I remember from the movie 'Flashdance' is a bucket of water being dumped on Jessica Beals' character 'Alex' during an exotic dance routine. I had no idea of the monstrous success of this movie and it's soundtrack before today.

As The Shark continues to swim it's way through 20 Years in 20 Days, the impact of the movie 'Flashdance' on the world of pop culture in 1983 was felt in three major media sources.

The film had budget of $7 million and took in a 'flashy' $201 million at the box office!

The songs on the soundtrack were transposed onto music videos that were wildly popular and basically worked as free trailers that promoted the movie nonstop on MTV.

The soundtrack spent an astounding 17 straight weeks in 1983 as The Number One Album in America and won a Grammy for Best original score for a motion picture or television special.

Irene Cara's 'What A Feeling' (which won an Oscar for Best Original Song) and Michael Sembello's 'Maniac' were both Number One Hits.

Looking back now, its hard to believe that Cinema, Television and the entire world of Music were all transfixed by this story of 'Alex the Welder' and her dreams of dancing in this magical year of 1983.
