Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines from Lynyrd Skynyrd along with manager Dean Kilpatrick were killed when their plane crashed in Gillsburg, Mississippi.

Keith Moon played his last show with The Who at the end of a North American tour at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto. It would be almost 2 years later, on September 7, 1978, Moon died of an overdose of a sedative Heminevrin, that had been prescribed to prevent seizures induced by alcohol withdrawal.
