In my opinion, there is nothing sadder than a used Christmas tree on the side of the road. Here are three ways you can soften the blow of turning the cherished centerpiece of the Holidays into an unwanted dying sapling.

1. Many of my family members will lean the tree outside against the bulkhead and fill it will orange halves and birdseed. The birds and squirrels love it, I think they're put at ease because it's an actual tree they're feasting in and watching them snack away just a few feet from your window is a lot of fun.

2. Do you, or someone you know have a goat? Seems like a weird question but goats devour Christmas trees. After a couple days, only the tree skeleton will be left and disposal is much easier.

3.  If you live in a less rural environment, you can always consult your local waste removal team. Christmas trees are great at preventing soil and beach erosion so put your Tannenbaum in the hands of a true professional!
