A new vegan doughnut shop will be opening this spring in at 450 Route 1 Kittery according to an article on SunJournal, com.

The owners, Tamara Monroe and Ryan MacDougall, grew up in Maine, and have just moved back from Boston. They already have restaurant experience having both worked in the field. Ryan worked in the business for 10 years here in Maine and Tamara worked her way through high school and college with restaurant jobs.

The article states that while they are both lovers of doughnuts only one of them is vegan and are finally realizing their dream of opening a doughnut shop.

The shop is called Lovebirds and will sell only vegan products and gluten free options. No eggs, no milk, no honey and no butter, except for their vegan butter. Their menu, according to the article, will have flavors changing monthly and will feature doughnuts like pistachio cream and mango/vanilla with a tangy fresh guava stripe. Other vegan items will include Chelsea buns which are like cinnamon buns but filled with different flavors. Also on the menu is Monkey Bread and croissants.

Look for Lovebirds to open around the second week of April.
