Okay, people...why am I now just finding out about this place? Did you know about this dessert shop on Washington Street in Dover? Who wants to carpool? It looks like I'll be making a trip into downtown Dover very, very soon!

I just happened to come across some information about an upcoming event in Dover and I noticed it's going to be held at a place called 'Lickee's and Chewy's.' The name intrigued me, so I looked 'em up. Low and behold, there is, what appears to be a divine dessert bar in downtown Dover, that has just now come under my radar!

According to the Lickee's and Chewy's website, it was founded by a veteran who got the idea while serving in Afghanistan (thank you for your service). He started his business in Durham, but has outgrown that location. Now, the company is located in the Cocheco Mill near the Noggin Factory on Washington Street.

According to the website, here's how the name 'Lickee's and Chewy's' came to be:
It all began while I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008/09. It was a few days after Christmas and one of the guys I worked with spun around in his chair and looked over at a table covered in a huge pile of candies, chips, cookies etc that had been sent in care packages from our families back home and exclaims “That’s a lot of lickies and chewies!” to which I responded, “That’s a lot of what?” and he went on to explain how it is an old military term used to refer to snacks, candy, or other small items that soldiers bring with them during field training. I told him right then and there that I was going to open a candy store with that name some day because I have always loved candy, I love the flavors, the colors, the idea of being able to try a little at a time and most of all, the way it makes people feel … happy.

According the Lickee's and Chewy's Facebook page, will be holding a 'Celebration of Chocolate' event on February 24th from 6-8pm. The event benefits the Friends of the Earth, Sea & Space Center in Dover.
