So it's that time of year again. Another sure sign that Spring is on the way. But why do we do it?

Daylight Savings Time was implemented close to 100 years ago to make better use of natural daylight, hopefully conserve energy that might otherwise be spent on artificial light and hopefully decrease road accidents by making sure highways and back roads are naturally lit during the hours with most traffic.

Retail stores and restaurants are in favor of this switch as people will stay out later and spend more money shopping, eating and drinking.

There are some downsides to the change in time, including some studies that show that there is an increase in both heart attacks and road accidents on the days after clocks are set forward one hour in the spring.

As for how it affects me, when I was a kid, it meant being able to go outside after dinner to play with my friends. These days, it means that I live like an infant and go to bed while it's still light outside.
