Maine is home to the largest population of black bears in the lower 48 states, according to the department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The Wells Maine Police posted this video on their Facebook page of a mother bear and her cubs helping themselves to a free meal, courtesy of the backyard feeders of Steve and Lori Rogers on Alpine Drive. The family of bears may be cute and obviously very photogenic; however, they are wild animals whose privacy should be respected. The police in Wells want to remind residents to keep their distance from bears. Also, its a good idea to bring in bird feeders and dog bowls, and secure all outdoor trash bins.
