Thanksgiving is widely regarded as the most popular holiday in America because it offers us the chance to practice our favorite pastimes: binge eating & drinking, and arguing with family members. Thanks to a new study we now know which states do these the best.

Estately.com has come up with a 'Thanksgiving Misery Index' to determine which U.S. states are most/least likely to have a miserable Thanksgiving. The index is based on the following criteria:

  • Likelihood of a family food poisoning episode
  • Likelihood of relatives getting drunk and making a scene
  • Likelihood of political arguments
  • Dietary restrictions impacting meal quality
  • Likelihood of favorite NFL team losing on Thanksgiving
  • Likelihood of guests/cooks abandoning meal to shop a Black Friday sale

All excellent factors. However, they're missing one key component that always makes my Thanksgiving go from happy to miserable: likelihood of serving boxed stuffing. Nothing makes my skin boil like boxed stuffing. Make it from scratch or GTFO.

Not surprisingly New Hampshire ranks 28th. They always seem to do pretty well in state rankings.
